The U.S. Census Bureau announced that they would be conducting a Household Pulse Survey to better understand how communities are being impacted by COVID-19. This survey will be distributed to approximately 14 million households across the country, including just over 300,000 households in Washington State, by email and possibly text. This resource is meant for trusted messengers, volunteers, and community leaders have what they need to respond to questions if they come up.

Rural communities across Washington face unique barriers to completing the census and have unique needs for federal funding that is distributed based on census data. Use these social media messages and graphics to inform rural communities, and update them with messages relevant to their needs. With many students returning home or to somewhere other than their college residence, the U.S. Census Bureau has provided guidance for students and parents on how to complete the census accurately. Use these social media messages and graphics to inform your community, and update them to make them more relevant given your specific needs.

As COVID-19 continues to affect our ability to conduct outreach in-person, we need to continue to rely on alternative means of reminding people to complete their census – online, by phone, and by mail. Use these sample messages on your social media channels or wherever you are conducting outreach. These messages address COVID-19, how to complete the census without a census ID number, that there’s still time to complete the census, and why completing the census is a show of strength.

These social media graphics include a special “Stay Home. Stay Safe. Be Counted.” message that you can use to remind people to complete their census during the COVID-19 Washington State stay at home order.

This special resource includes messages to help you in your digital communications efforts, as well as phone and text efforts.
